We take on the administration that follows a death. We write to and ring the banks, pension providers, insurers, utilities, HMRC, the DWP and the council; we gather the date-of-death valuations; we prepare the probate and inheritance tax forms for you to check and sign; and we chase everyone who doesn't reply. You stay the executor and every decision remains yours. We do the legwork.

We'll tell you on the first call, before you commit to anything, once we know what this estate actually involves. It is a clear fee for the work, agreed with you up front, never a percentage of what the estate is worth. If we think you can manage it yourself, or that you need a solicitor rather than us, we'll say so and there's nothing to pay.

No. Solace is not a firm of solicitors and we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. We do administration, not law: we can't advise you on the legal position, interpret a disputed will or represent you. Where something needs a solicitor we will tell you straight away and can introduce you to a regulated firm.

Many estates never involve one. Some clearly should: a will that's unclear or being contested, trusts, a large inheritance tax bill, assets abroad, a business, or family who aren't speaking. We'll give you our honest view on the first call. Where a solicitor is involved, we work alongside them and take the admin off their bill as well as off your hands.

A signed authority so organisations will talk to us, a copy of the death certificate, the will if there is one, and whatever paperwork has already arrived through the door. If you don't have something, that's usually fine: a lot of what we do is finding it. You can send things by email, by post, or by photographing them on your phone.

Your information is held in the UK, encrypted, and handled under UK GDPR. We only ever share it with the organisations we're notifying on your behalf, and only what they need. We do not ask for banking logins or passwords, we do not sell data, and if you ask us to delete everything at the end, we will.

No, and we won't pretend otherwise. We are not counsellors. Our job is to lift the administrative weight off you. Where emotional support would help, we can point you towards established bereavement organisations who do that work properly.
